Biotin is one of the most important B vitamins in the horses' diet, particularly for hoof growth and hoof horn quality.

The B vitamins are closely involved with protein, fat and carbohydrate metabolism and interactions, therefore they play a very important part in the metabolism of hoof tissue which is highly active and fast-growing.

A study done by the University of Edinburgh showed that horses fed biotin daily had a 15% higher growth rate in hoof horn and 15% more hoof growth overall.

In other species, Biotin has been shown tohave a beneficial effect on insulin signalling. And in cows, loose white line connections is the hallmark of biotin deficiency.

We routinely recommend Biotin be fed to horses, especially if they are suffering from poor hoof quality or other hoof ailments such as hoof cracks, slow growth, laminitis, white line disease, seedy toe or poor laminar connection with flares and weak hooves.

The majority of studies on Biotin in horses have used around 20mg/day for the average-sized horse.

If you feed Missy's Bucket according to recommended doses, it contains 20mg per day.
